Chatsworth and its Dazzling Cascading Water Feature

At the rear of Chatsworth House, the Cascade garden water fountain forms a spectacular centerpiece to the gardens. Extending down the hillside for 200 yards in the direction of the home is a group of 24 irregularly positioned stone steps. The Cascade is based on a 17th century French design and is totally gravity fed as well. Remaining unaltered since its inception, this water fountain was originally created for the first Duke of Devonshire in 1696. At the apex of the fountain, from which water flows downward, stands the Cascade House. Ornamented on the outside with deep-sea creatures in bas-relief, the residence is a small construction. Water pressure to the Cascade can be enhanced on important occasions, meaning the Cascade House becomes part of the Cascade sight, as water spills through conduits on its roof and from the jaws of its carved ocean creatures, before continuing straight down the Cascade. Creating a wonderful and soothing accompaniment to a walk through the landscape, the minor contrast in measurement of every step means that the sound of the water cascading down differs as it falls along the Cascades. In 2004, Chatsworth's Cascade was named the best water feature in England.

Chatsworth: The "Revelation" Garden Fountain

Angela Conner, the reputable British sculptor, fashioned “Revelation,” the latest addition to the decorative exterior fountains of Chatsworth. In 2004/2005 she was commissioned by the late 11th Duke of Devonshire to create a limited edition bust of Queen Elizabeth, in brass and steel, for the Queen’s 80th birthday celebration. “Revelation” was put up in 1999 in Jack Pond, one of Chatsworth’s most seasoned ponds. It takes on the form of four large petals designed of metal which open and close with the water movement, alternatively concealing and revealing a gold colored globe at the sculpture’s center. A gold dust decorated metallic globe was manufactured and added to the prominent sculpture standing five meters in height and five meters in width. This latest fountain is an intriguing and interesting addition to the Chatsworth Gardens, unique in that the motion of the flower petals is completely powered by water.

Self-Contained Water Fountains: Are They Useful?

Stand-alone fountains are great for anyone looking for affordability and convenience. The plumbing, pump, and other components come with the fountain. There is another use for the label “self-contained”, a reference to a fountain that has its own water repository.

Given that they do not need much work to install, self-contained fountains are ideal for patios and porches. Since they are easily moveable, it is easy to change their location whenever you want.

The landscaper will first inspect that the spot where you want your fountain to go is even. Any lumps can easily be evened out by your landscaper. You are now prepared to install your water feature and fill it with water. It is finally time to plug it in using either an electrical socket, a solar panel, or batteries.

The best option for anyone who wants flexibility and does not want to use external plumbing or water source is a self-contained fountain. Many people put them in the middle of the garden, but they can really go anywhere. Cast stone, metal, ceramic, and fiberglass are just a few of the materials used to build them.

Rome, Gian Bernini, And Water Fountains

In Rome’s city center, there are many easily recognized public fountains. One of the best ever sculptors and artists of the 17th century, nearly all of them were planned, conceived and constructed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Also a city designer, he had skills as a water fountain developer, and records of his life's work are evident throughout the streets of Rome. Bernini's father, a recognized Florentine sculptor, guided his young son, and they finally settled in Rome, to fully exhibit their artwork in the form of public water features and water fountains. The young Bernini received encouragement from Popes and influential artists alike, and was an exceptional worker. His sculpture was initially his claim to popularity. Most particularly in the Vatican, he utilized a base of knowledge in ancient Greek architecture and melded it effortlessly with Roman marble. Though he was influenced by many, Michelangelo had the most profound impact on him, both personally and professionally.

Anglo-Saxon Grounds During the Norman Conquest

Anglo-Saxons experienced extraordinary changes to their daily lives in the latter half of the eleventh century due to the accession of the Normans.

The Normans were much better than the Anglo-Saxons at architecture and horticulture when they came into power. However, there was no time for home life, domestic architecture, and adornment until the Normans had conquered the whole realm. Castles were more basic designs and often built on blustery hills, where their people devoted both time and space to practicing offense and defense, while monasteries were considerable stone buildings, commonly situated in the widest, most fruitful hollows. Gardening, a quiet occupation, was unfeasible in these unproductive fortifications. The early Anglo-Norman style of architecture is represented in Berkeley Castle, which is most likely the most unscathed sample we have. The keep is reported to have been created during the time of William the Conqueror. A big terrace recommended for exercising and as a means to stop enemies from mining under the walls runs around the building. On one of these terraces sits a charming bowling green: it is coated in grass and flanked by an old yew hedge that is formed into the shape of rough ramparts.
