Chatsworth Gardens and its Revelation Fountain

“Revelation,” the latest addition to the beautiful garden fountains of Chatsworth, was created by renowned British sculptor Angela Conner. twf038-ei__38714.jpg The now deceased 11th Duke of Devonshire commissioned her, because of her work in brass and steel, to create a limited edition bust of Queen Elizabeth in commemoration of the Queen’s 80th birthday. In 1999 Revelation was installed in Jack Pond, one of Chatsworth’s oldest ponds. The four large metallic petals close and open with the movement of water, alternatively camouflaging and showing a gold colored globe at the sculpture’s heart. A gold dust colored metal globe was created and incorporated into the prominent sculpture standing five meters high and five meters in width. The flower petals move based on the flow of water, making this installation an intriguing addition to the Gardens of Chatsworth.

Keep Your Landscape Fountain Clean

Proper care and regular maintenance are important to the longevity of water fountains. It is easy for foreign items to find their way into outside fountains, so keeping it clean is important. Another factor is that water that is exposed to sunlight is prone to growing algae. To prevent this, take vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, or sea salt and add directly into the water. There are those who like to use bleach, but that is hazardous to any animals that might drink or bathe in the water - so should therefore be avoided.

Every 3-4 months, garden fountains should go through a decent cleaning. The initial task is to get rid of all the water. When it is empty, scrub inside the reservoir with a gentle cleanser.

A useful tip is to use a toothbrush if there are little hard-to-reach spots. Make sure all the soap is properly washed off.

It is highly advised taking the pump apart to better clean the inside and remove any plankton or calcium. Soaking it in vinegar for a time will make it easier to wash. Neither rain water nor mineral water contain ingredients that will build up inside the pump, so use either over tap water if possible.

And finally, make sure the water level is consistently full in order to keep your fountain running smoothly. If the water level falls below the pump’s intake level, it can damage the pump and cause it to burn out - something you do not want to happen!

The Advantages of Disappearing Fountains in your Yard

Another name for a disappearing fountain is a “pondless” fountain. You cannot see where the water comes from, since it is below ground. Disappearing fountains add calming sound effects and striking visuals to any place where people gather. They come in a wide variety of designs, some of which are ceramic urns, waterfalls, granite columns, and millstones.

Disappearing fountains also come with many advantages. Any risk to anyone standing around it is eliminated since the water source is underneath ground level. As such, it is okay for children to play near it. Additionally, due to the fact that water is located underground, none of it is lost to evaporation. This type of fountain, therefore, is a good option for regions where there is a need to conserve water. The water source will remain clean and free of debris since it is below gound and algae will not grow in it, so you will not need to spend a lot of time cleaning it. Finally, due to its more compact size, it is easier to install it where you want it than other types of fountains.

Garden Fountains: The Minoan Civilization

Archaeological digs in Minoan Crete in Greece have revealed several types of channels. These were utilized to furnish cities with water as well as to reduce flooding and eliminate waste material. Many were prepared from clay or rock. Terracotta was employed for channels and water pipes, both rectangular and round. These included cone-like and U-shaped terracotta piping that were exclusive to the Minoans. Terracotta pipelines were laid under the floors at Knossos Palace and utilized to distribute water. Along with distributing water, the terracotta conduits of the Minoans were also used to amass water and store it. These terracotta piping were used to perform:

Subterranean Water Transportation: It’s not quite known why the Minoans required to transport water without it being enjoyed. Quality Water Transportation: Bearing in mind the evidence, several scholars suggest that these pipes were not linked to the popular water allocation process, supplying the residence with water from a various source.

Reasons to Purchase Your Personal Pond Water Fountain

When envisioning a fountain, most people first think of the artfully sculpted ones found adorning beautiful homes, parks, public buildings, etc. That said, in reality they can be made of any style and size, and are not limited to public places. A pond fountain can be a wonderful add-on to your own yard.

Two good things will take place if you put in one of your own. First are the pleasant aesthetics and peaceful nature of fountains. What you want at the end of a rough day is the relaxing sound of the water and a tranquil ambiance. A bit of elegance and charm will also be added to the ambiance. Additionally, when you have friends over, they will want to hang out around your gorgeous fountain, making your get-togethers even more fun.

Another advantage is that such a water feature will provide the fish in your pond with fresher, healthier water. Fish must have water that is flowing and aerated, and pond fountains provide both.

Your fish will last a longer time because of the constantly flowing, aerated water. You will see an improvement in your plant life as well.
